Tim Patterson has slept in haunted houses in Cambodia, in the engine compartment of a slow boat on the Mekong River in Laos, among baboons and elephants at the bottom of Ngorongoro Crater, atop a mountain pass in Bhutan and under a bush in Hokkaido after his tent exploded during a typhoon.

Last night he slept in a field outside Cheyenne, Wyoming while covering a rodeo for Get Lost, an Australian adventure travel magazine.

As a travel journalist, Tim focuses on off-beat destinations, long-term travel, cultural awareness and environmentally conscious tourism. He's much more likely to recommend an organic farm or backcountry fly-fishing hotspot than a spa package at a luxury hotel.

Although Tim is always happy to write features for traditional print media such as Get Lost, most of his articles and travel guides are published online.
